Established in 2004 with the merger of Israel Center of Hillcrest Manor, Conservative Synagogue of Jamaica Estates and Electchester Jewish Center, ICCJ has much to be proud of in its first decade. Embracing fully the concept of egalitarianism, we were the first Conservative synagogue in all of Queens and Eastern Long Island to hire a woman rabbi.
We pride ourselves on a diverse membership that includes traditional families, single-parent families, interfaith families and families belonging to the LGBT community.
Our religious school, Ohr Chadash, and our youth groups, have been cited for excellence by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism while our recreational programs have attracted more than 300 youngsters from the surrounding area. We have helped to pioneer Kehillah inter-synagogue cooperation in Central and Northeast Queens. And we have taken to heart the concept of Tikun Olam—Healing the World—in ways that range from sponsoring Women Of the Wall and providing relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, to conducting a year-round food drive and giving comfort to the sick and housebound through home visits and regular phone calls.
Most important, we value our commitment to being an inclusive, caring community—one that seeks to support and nurture all who come to worship, learn and grow together.
