BRAND NEW FACILITY
North Side School Bayside opened its doors in September 2016, offering a beautiful facility with new classrooms, furniture and an incredible gymnasium space. From the moment you enter the school, you are greeted with warmth, love and an environment that fosters learning and growth. Each room, from the classrooms to the library and the centers room is warm and inviting.
In our incredible, air conditioned gymnasium space, the children have ample opportunity to play and grow through gross motor movement. We are fortunate enough to have the famed Imagination Playground equipment in our gym, which allows the children to work collaboratively with their peers as well as encouraging creative free play. Additional to this, the children participate in yoga, ABC exercises as well as a myriad of other activities which not only facilitate gross motor movement, but become teachable moments, such as number and letter recognition, sorting, color recognition and shape recognition.
MONTESSORI LESSONS
North Side School prides itself on being a member of the American Montessori Society and our staff incorporates Montessori teachings into our daily curriculum. At North Side School, we value the human spirit in each of our kids and our lessons aid in the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive. In early childhood, Montessori lessons help children learn through sensory-motor activities, working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement. Our Montessori lessons encourage the children to think critically, a skill that becomes imperative as they grow. From utilizing traditional Montessori tools such as the brown stair, which prepares the children for practical life to pincer grasps which aid in fine motor movement, North Side School employs these materials and more in order to educate the student as a whole. We utilize the Montessori philosophies to help the children develop a positive attitude toward school and to truly foster a love of learning by making it FUN and ENJOYABLE!
MUSICAL ENRICHMENT
North Side School values educating the child as a whole and that includes providing enrichment through the arts. Music plays a huge role in our every day life and can help aid in development, improvement of social skills and has vast benefits for children of all ages. That being said, one of the most unique and favorable programs that North Side has introduced is our violin program. Taught by a Suzuki trained violin instructor, the children have the opportunity to learn violin basics on an actual violin under the masterful instruction of Mr. Thomas. The kids also enjoy sing-a-longs with Mr. Thomas, incorporating familiar songs, monthly themes and even dance moves. By introducing music on this level at an early age, we are creating a life long love and appreciation for all things musical.
