Meet Jenn Berenson, Work at Home Mom

Rodan + Fields

By Jenn Berenson March 30, 2015

What made you decide to start a business? How long have you been in business?

I had been a stay at home mom, for the past two years. Just to digress, "Stay at home" always cracks me up. How much "staying at home" do we actually do?! Anyway, I was looking to go back into my field (Early Intervention), but was having anxiety over giving up my ability to be there for my family, at any given time. Cue, Rodan + Fields! A girlfriend of mine had been Facebook posting these phenomenal success stories, with the products, and as a consultant. Clean up your skin! Turn back the clock! Be your own boss! Make Money! Um, YES! The beauty of this business is you can take it to any level you desire. I have been in the business since the beginning of the year, and am having so much fun! I have met amazing women, who have coached me into being a goal setter. I did reenter my career field, of Early Intervention, because it was also an opportunity I could not pass up. Being a part of a company, like Rodan + Fields, gives you the freedom to make it what you want it to be. Whether it be for extra money (who couldn't use that?), or for life sustaining money (who doesn't need that?), it's there for you! And, you'll have beautiful skin on top of it!

How old are your kids and how do you balance business & family?

I have a two daughters, 10 & 2.  I work when my older daughter is at school, and when the little one is asleep,  But, I do my best work at night! Let's be honest, working with kids at home, especially a two year old, is near impossible. Luckily, I'm a night owl. But, I can do that, with R+F! It is on my own time, at my own pace. Social media never closes! I may be the nut posting at midnight, but it is getting out there, and I have inquiries the next day! There are lots of us "nuts" up late! My balance

Why did you choose this business and what motivates you daily to work on your business?

I had listened to a "business opportunity" call from Rodan + Fields, and the speaker was amazing. I felt like I was being life coached.  I signed up, and began listening to training calls. Free, invaluable, trainings. I've been applying so much of what I've been learning, to everyday life. One of the quotes, from a training, that has stuck with me is, "Treat this like a hobby, you'll get paid like a hobby. Treat this like a business, you'll get paid like a business." You take control. I am motivated to work this business, to the best it can be, so that I can contribute to my family, financially, but never miss a thing, emotionally and physically. I have always worked full time. I spent most of my older daughter's elementary school years feeling guilty about not being able to come to every event, or feeling anxious about how I'm going to divide up my set number of vacation days, between sick days, school holidays, or actual family vacation. When I had my second daughter, and decided to stay home for a while, it afforded me the luxury of being there everyday, right at 2:20, not 5:45, to pick up my older daughter. She could go to the park, have playdates, and have afterschool activities! This was huge! It is so amazing. But, I also know the importance of showing my girls the value of earning their own money. I, absolutely, know that being home, and taking care of your family, is invaluable. But, I also know how fantastic it feels to be an earner, and contributor. Being your own boss, in this business, gives you both! BOTH!

The freedom to work at your own pace, and sell really amazing products, was a huge motivator.  I've set a goal to devote an hour a day, to R+F. If this was my full time means of income, I would devote more, still without sacrificing what I don't want to sacrifice.

What opportunities have your business afforded you? (For example - free trip, free products, paid bills, etc)

Like I said, I've only been in this since January, but I have already received a beautiful pair of Tory Burch sandals, as a bonus! You also get an amazing discount on fantastic products, and incentive bonuses (Tiffany necklaces, shopping sprees, trips). But, more than free stuff, it has pulled me out of my comfort zone. I worry a lot less about what people will think if I bring up my business. We all want to support our families, pay our bills, and enjoy some extras. This is how I'm doing it, with zero sales experience.

What advice would you give to another mom who are looking for an opportunity right now? Or if they're not into starting a business - and just browsing to shop, what do you want us to know about your company’s products?

This, truly, is the business for you! We, seriously, get paid to wash our faces, and talk about it. The support that you have, and the way that has been paved, by all the successful women in this business, takes almost all of the guesswork out. There is such a solid foundation established.
