What made you decide to start a business? How long have you been in business?
I started my Mary Kay business by accident. I met an Mary Kay Consultant and signed up the same day. I was looking for something I can do while staying at home and taking care of my 2 boys (one was 4 and the other one 3 months old). I have been in business now 12 years.
How old are your kids and how do you balance business & family?
My children are now 17 and 12 years old. They are very self sufficient partially due to my businesses. It is still nice to be there for them every time they need me due to the flexibility with my job. Planning is a key when you have your own business, as well as having a wonderful partner who understand the nature of my business and the necessity to jump right in and help.
Why did you choose this business and what motivates you daily to work on your business?
I started my business by accident but I stayed for all this time because the quality of people, training and products are wonderful. The money is great too. What motivate me daily is opportunity to make my family's life better as well as helping other women and their loved ones.
What opportunities has your business afforded you? (for example - free trip, free products, paid bills, etc)
In my 12 year long career in Mary Kay I traveled many times to different parts of the country. Every year we have an educational and fun trip to Dallas, our headquarters. I paid for my own car from my business. Our quarterly gifts are practical and fun - purses, luggage, TV, dinner set for 12, jewelry and so much more!
What advice would you give to another mom who are looking for an opportunity right now? Or if they're not into starting a business - and just browsing to shop, what do you want us to know about your company’s products?
Having your own business is challenging but rewarding. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to achieve independence and monetary gain while raising your own family. I went on every school trip and spent time with my children when they were young and that is PRICELESS.
